Well, in contrast to spontaneous emission, one can understand all stimulated emission effects using the classical or semiclassical description. Note: For all types of electromagnetic radiations, the velocity is a constant value. Any collection of N mutually orthogonal vectors of length 1 in an N-dimensional vector space constitutes an orthonormal basis for that space. Attempts to solve the problem have lead to some intriguing theories. The problem lies in the fact that there is no unique way to choose a basis of energy eigenstates for the unperturbed system.

The probability amplitude wave function ψ of quantum mechanics is not such a field, however. This amount of energy may actually be expected to be available from the difference in packing fraction between uranium and the elements in the middle of the periodic system. Other examples are axion physics, many aspects of neutrino physics, and attempts to understand the patterns of quark and lepton masses and mixings. As a start, how familiar are you with spontaneous and stimulated emission and the concept of population inversion?

His theory of cosmological natural selection, which he hammered out in the 1990s, envisions black holes as cosmic eggs that hatch new universes. For example, an electromagnetic field fills the space around us and the entire space throughout the universe. In fact, the particle does not take one route or the other, does not exist as a localized particle in space when we are not looking. The fact that bombarding electrons with light energetic enough to distinguish which slit the electron went through causes a particle-like distribution need not be interpreted as some metaphysical interference of consciousness. Quantum laws, which are therefore universally applicable, converge in these two limits of large numbers to classical laws.
