In 1796, Jean-Charles Pellerin (1756–1836) set up a printing shop in Epinal, France, and began producing broadsheets especially designed to appeal to young readers called Imagerie d’Epinal. Might be a bit scary for very young readers - parents might want to read this with their kids. Unlike comic books, graphic novels are generally stand-alone stories with more complex plots. The artwork is rough, but hopefully the plot (and the information the manga imparts) will be enough compensation for those who don't like that style of drawing.
