In his book, "Orchestral Performance", which is aimed mainly at conductors of amateur and youth orchestras, Christopher Adey specifically mentions outside back desk of firsts as the loneliest seat in the orchestra, possibly adjacent to audience on three quadrants, and reckons that it requires confidence and emotional stability.
